Funding for Fish Frying Skills qualification
Andrew Crook - NFFF President
October 20, 2020

Up to 50% funding is available from Seafish towards the cost of the Seafish/NFFF Fish Frying Skills qualification if you apply by 13 November 2020 and the learner completes their assessment by 31 December 2020. This is limited to one learner per business with 20 funded places available on a first come, first served basis.

The learner receives two self-study workbooks which they will study at a time, place and pace that is convenient to them. When the learner has studied the workbooks and completed the exercises in the workbooks, and feels confident with their preparation and frying skills, which they develop whilst working in their shop, they will then contact the NFFF to organise their remote assessment. This is conducted in two parts; the assessment of the preparation and frying skills and a 40 question multiple-choice exam.

In 2020, Seafish and the NFFF have successfully piloted the assessment process so that it can be conducted remotely. This means that the practical assessment and multiple-choice exam are assessed using video platforms including FaceTime, WhatsApp video and Zoom. The fish and chip shop must have Wifi or suitable 4G bandwidth for a reliable video connection.

Successful candidates receive a certificate awarded by Seafish and the NFFF.
