We would like you to invite you to a Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and NFFF roundtable to discuss the MSC response to the Netflix documentary, Seaspiracy, which was released last week.
The MSC statement was released on Friday and covers some of the top-level issues that we have found within the film. The documentary raises some important topics and it’s correct in saying there is a crisis in our oceans and an urgent need to end overfishing. However, the overarching message is fundamentally at odds with fish consumption and by virtue of that, sustainable fishing as a concept. The solution provided by the film – that everyone should stop eating seafood completely – would obviously have major implications for the seafood industry as well as the fish and chip sector.
The MSC would like to invite you to a round table to answer any questions you have on the issues highlighted in the film, the challenges the oceans face, and the inaccuracies presented in the documentary regarding seafood sustainability and the MSC. The round table will take place using zoom on Tuesday the 6th of April at 9.30-10.30am.
George Clark, Loren Hiller and Seth McCurry from the MSC UK and Ireland team, welcome the Fish and Chip industry to this round table and will be available to answer any questions that you may have. We will also be sharing with you how the MSC & NFFF can further support you. Please join in the discussion by sharing your perspective.
If you would like to submit a question to the MSC team to be answered on the day of the webinar, please email mail@nfff.co.uk. Alternatively, we look forward to answering any questions that you have on the day of the round table.
