Willenhall-based Middleton Foods – the UK’s leading manufacturer of food pre-mixes – embraced this year’s National Fish and Chip Day celebrations by once again feeding its local community. Employees from the family-owned and operated food manufacturer proudly served freshly cooked fish and chips to over 100 attendees of the Willenhall CHART Community Hub, on Tuesday 4th June.

Referred to as ‘Good Companions’ by Winston Churchill – who ensured fish and chips weren’t rationed because he thought it would be detrimental to the morale of the nation – during the D-Day landings, soldiers who found themselves behind enemy lines and needed a way of telling whether someone was a friend or foe, devised a two-word code… one called ‘fish’, the other replied ‘chips’!

As the biggest day in the fish and chip calendar, National Fish and Chip Day has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 2015 – returning in 2024 for its ninth year!
