As the heartbeats of our communities, independent hospitality businesses across the UK are set to take centre stage during Independent Hospitality Week, organised by the Nationwide Caterers Association (NCASS). From May 6th to May 12th, 2024, the campaign aims to celebrate the resilience, adaptability, and indispensable contributions of independent hospitality businesses to local economies and communities.
Independent Hospitality Week is more than just a celebration; it’s a rallying call to recognise the vital role that independent businesses play in shaping our neighbourhoods and enriching our lives. With a focus on showcasing their versatility and innovative spirit, the week-long event encourages businesses to embrace their uniqueness and share their stories with the world.
“We want to remind both businesses and communities of the invaluable role that independent hospitality establishments play,” says Alan Fox at NCASS. “These businesses are the backbone of our high streets, driving innovation, diversity, and forward-thinking in the hospitality industry. But they need our support now more than ever.”
According to recent statistics, there are approximately 140,000 independent hospitality businesses in the UK, comprising an impressive 70% of all hospitality businesses nationwide. These businesses not only form the majority but also serve as the foundation for growth and innovation in the industry.
Throughout Independent Hospitality Week, participating businesses are invited to engage with their customers in creative ways, from producing engaging videos to offering special menus that highlight their distinctive flavours and experiences. The goal is to ignite a buzz around independent hospitality and reinforce the importance of supporting local businesses.
Independent hospitality businesses have weathered countless challenges, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, their resilience remains unwavering. As the backbone of our high streets, they embody the spirit of entrepreneurship and community that defines our nation’s cultural landscape.
“We cannot underestimate the significance of independent hospitality businesses,” adds Alan Fox “They are the lifeblood of our neighbourhoods, fostering connections, and creating memorable experiences for all who walk through their doors. As they continue to navigate uncertain times, let’s show our unwavering support and appreciation.”
