Lockdown last supper revealed and chippy tea takes top spot ahead of curry and pizza
On Freedom Eve Brits will be saying goodbye to lockdown by celebrating with a chippy tea, new national research has revealed.
The iconic Fish and Chips has landed top spot in a study to find out what meal the UK will order for their last lockdown supper ahead of Freedom Day (19th July for England and August for Scotland and Wales).
The nationwide poll by Foodhub, one of the UK’s leading food ordering apps, reveals that almost 1 in 5 (18%) will be ordering Fish and Chips the night before lockdown ends.
But the iconic chippy tea, was run close by curry (16%) and pizza (12%).
Takeaway orders have enjoyed a huge increase over lockdown, with more than a quarter of Brits admitting they now order twice as many takeaways as they did pre-lockdown, with one in five ordering a takeaway at least once a week.
And while Fish and Chips may come out on top as the dream lockdown last supper, the most popular ordered cuisine over lockdown was in fact Chinese, narrowly followed by Pizza.
But what’s a last supper without a drink? Whether it’s an alcoholic tipple or a refreshing palate cleanser, you need something to wash down that delish fish. Foodhub’s research found that just under a quarter (23%) will be opting to say goodbye to lockdown with a glass of wine to accompany their final supper, followed closely by a fizzy soft drink (16%) and beer coming in third with (15%).
To finish off the meal, surprisingly, ice cream (10%) failed to be named the favourite dessert, and was narrowly beaten by cheesecake (11%). However, a whopping one in five claimed they wouldn’t be ordering a dessert at all…so much for the nation’s famous sweet tooth!
The perfect lockdown last supper needs to be hosted in the perfect setting and the vast majority of Brits (56%) will be enjoying their last lockdown supper with family compared to just 9% who would eat with a friend.
Whether we sit up at the table for our last lockdown meal or have the meal on a lap is split near equally at 35% and 36% respectively, as nearly one third of people will also switch on the telly and dive into their favourite TV series whilst enjoying their meal.

The different UK regions have very different ideas as to what they’d choose for their last lockdown supper, however.
While the East Midlands, East of England, the North East, the South West, the West Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber were all in agreement on Fish and Chips, in London, and the North West most people will be saying goodbye to lockdown by chowing down on a takeaway pizza.
Elsewhere, Scotland and the South East will be tucking in to curry, and Northern Ireland is split equally between all three!
It appears there is also a generational divide, with over one in five 25–34-year-olds choosing pizza as their last supper compared to just 9% fish and chips. Whereas the 55–64-year-olds, 23% opt for a chippy and just 7% for an Italian treat.
