Zero Plus Fish & Chips in Canton, Cardiff, has recently founded the , the Young Voices Community Project, which encouraged local year 6 students to share stories about what makes their community special. Partnering with Lansdowne Primary School, Zero Plus invited children to write creative pieces celebrating the unique aspects of their local area, fostering both creativity and local pride.
The students’ stories were compiled into a custom newspaper, set to be distributed throughout the community, giving these young writers a platform to showcase their talents and highlight what makes their area exceptional. To recognise their efforts, all participants received a free book voucher, with the top three submissions awarded £50 in book vouchers for their outstanding contributions.

Zero Plus Fish and Chips, Zohaib Hussain said: As the founder of the Young Voices project, I am thrilled to announce our partnership with T Quality and Wales Online in the creation of the Lansdowne Times, a unique community-driven newspaper. This initiative involved Year 6 pupils, who wrote their own articles, which were carefully judged to reflect the vibrant spirit and cohesion of our local area. By encouraging young minds to express their ideas and share their perspectives, we aim to foster a sense of community pride and togetherness. The Lansdowne Times is more than just a publication—it’s a testament to what can be achieved when local businesses, media, and the next generation come together.
1000 copies of the Lansdowne Times will be posted to local residents and businesses in Canton. We loved reading through all the thought provoking articles so if you do receive this through your post, please read what the amazing Young Voices in our community have to say.”
This initiative reflects Zero Plus Fish & Chips’ commitment to giving back to its community and supporting local talent. After winning the Marketing & Innovation Award at the 2024 National Fish and Chip Awards, Zero Plus has continued to demonstrate its dedication to community-driven projects.
